This scenario tackles the concept of uberveillance, the idea of an
omnipresent electronic surveillance that can take the form of a
CCTV camera, or even a microchip under the skin. The plot behind
the scenario is that two friends meet one another and basically
have a normal conversation. The camera then misconstrues this into
a suspicious event (a suggested drug deal), causing a wave of
problems which would involve the authorities, the possibility of a
lengthy legal debate and so forth. It also deals with the issue of
invasion of privacy, that if this small situation was to be applied
to the whole world, what privacy would we have left? If one could
not go about their daily business without having their actions
recorded and possibly taken out of context, how exactly ARE we
supposed to go about our daily business? We would feel constantly
trapped and unable to act like we would usually therefore
restricting our free will. Through studying this topic I have
realised the depth of this current situation and that this must
come to the attention of the public eye. This topic needs to be in
the forefront of everyones mind as we progress further in our
technological marvels. It is not a state of emergency we need to be
in, but readiness so that we may understand the implications of our
own creations.
